IPL 2020: What an amazing Victory? KXIP defeated by RCB by a 97-runs margin

The 6th match of tournament was opened with KXIP’s inning at The Dubai International Cricket Stadium. KL Rahul Batting was spectacular as he scored 132 off 69 balls with 6 sixes and 14 boundaries accompanied by Mayank Aggarwal. KL Rahul got honoured with Man Of the Match Title and KXIP became the first team till now in IPL 2020 to score over 200. They set a challenging target 206/3 for rivals RCB. Rahul’s glorious hundred was the highlight of the match. KXIP won after a super over loss against Delhi Capitals. KXIP have made it to be at top of the table with 4 points. Rahul said post-tournament:

KXIP defeated by RCB by a 97-runs margin

“It was good to be in the middle and see the team through. It was a complete team performance today. I had a chat with Maxi yesterday and told him I’m still not in control of my batting. He said ‘You’ve got to be joking’. I was nervous but knew if I spent some time at the centre, it will all settle down. As a captain, you’re short on time, but I still try to maintain the same routine. Till the toss, I try to think as a player and not as a captain. It’s a complete team performance as it can get. We had a few different plans going into this game. We needed two-three wickets upfront and needed a big total on the board. I think everyone would be happy.”

It seems like overconfidence of RCB’s after the win against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their tournament opener was a factor they lost this match. RCB could not even perform for 20 overs as they were knocked out with a final score 109. They made unavoidable mistakes that the things went out of favour. KXIP skipper KL Rahul gave two mistimed shots which Kohli if had not missed, KXIP would not have crossed even 180. They lost 3 wickets in first 3 overs despite having star batsmen like AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli and Aaron Finch. Well, RCB’s strategy didn’t work this time.

Virat Kohli on RCB’s performances:

“I think we were pretty good in the middle of first innings. I take the brunt of it, I dropped some chances. Maybe if we had restricted them under 180, we would not be under pressure from ball 1 in the chase. There are days when you have these kinds of things happening in the field, we had a good game and now a bad game, we need to move on and we need to fix those mistakes. We did pretty well especially closing in the second time, should have left from the front little there. With the bat as well, we should have put them under pressure from the start.”

3 mistakes RCB committed against KXIP

  1. Dropping KL Rahul’s Catches
  1. Not using their best bowlers Yuzwendra Chahal and Navdeep Saini for death overs
  2. Over Aggressive approach from the beginning of Match

Milestones achieved:

  • KL Rahul exceeds Rishabh Pant (128 in 2018) record to post the highest individual score by an Indian and a captain in IPL history.
  • Rahul also became the fastest Indian to reach 2000 IPL runs, reaching the milestone in his 60th inning.

Both franchise’s players were seen wearing black armbands to honour Dean Jones, who died in Mumbai due to a cardiac arrest on Thursday morning while having breakfast. Dean Jones was an Australian cricketer turned commentator.

The 7th match of the tournament will be played between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals which will be played in Dubai on 25th September 2020.
