The wait is about to over IPL 2020 is featuring tomorrow on 19th September 2020. The first opening match is between two giants Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. In an online press conference yesterday with the captain and Coach Mahela Jayawardene, Rohit Sharma confirmed saying that he will be starting the 13th IPL 2020 as an opening batsman.
“I opened for the entire tournament last year and will continue to do that. As a team, we keep all options open. I’m happy to do what the team wants. I enjoy batting at the top of the order and I’ve been doing it for a while. But even when I play for India, the message to the management is to not close any door and keep all the options open, so I’ll do the same here,” said Rohit.
While with a batsman like Chris Lynn in the team, Rohit will start in partnership with Quinton de Kock. As per our sources, Lynn was not able to perform on slow pitches of UAE in recently conducted Caribbean Premier League. Mumbai Indians are taking Lynn as a flexible option who was bought at his base price.
Meanwhile, in the trials of IPL 2020 at The Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Rohit and Quinton made a great combination. Also, Quinton gave a star performance last season too. The champion defenders are missing Lasith Malinga too who is not a part of current IPL due to some personal reasons. In the online conference Rohit said:
“For anyone, it’s hard to fill his boots. What he has done for MI and Sri Lanka is remarkable. He has been a match-winner for MI, whenever we were in trouble, Malinga bailed us out. His experience will be missed and what he did for MI is unbelievable. Nathan Coulter-Nile, James Pattinson and Dhawal Kulkarni are some of the names who can be his replacement. What he did for MI cannot be compared and he cannot be replaced,”
He spoke about the challenges they are facing in bio bubble environment due to Covid-19 situation. Also, a lot of players have never experienced playing on UAE grounds. Every player is coping hard to accommodate in this new environment.
